Summer Desserts in the World of Anne of Green Gables

Tutor Stephanie has been teaching English for many years and has extensive experience in vocal singing.

Over the past several years, she has also developed a strong passion for cooking and baking, learning and refining traditional family recipes.

She now enjoys sharing these recipes and cultural food experiences with students, friends, and families in Japan, combining language learning with hands-on cultural exploration.

• 1. Introduction (10–15 mins) – We’ll review the list of ingredients and utensils and introduce the two traditional summer desserts: Blueberry Grunt and Strawberry Shortcake. We will also discuss the cultural background of these dishes in Nova Scotia and their connection to *Anne of Green Gables* and Maritime summer traditions.
• 2. Blueberry Grunt Demonstration (25–30 mins) – I will demonstrate and guide everyone step by step through the preparation of this traditional Nova Scotian dessert. Participants will learn about cooking techniques, ingredient choices, and related English vocabulary and quotes from Anne series of books.
• 3. Strawberry Shortcake Demonstration (20–25 mins) – I will demonstrate and guide everyone through the preparation process step by step. We will also explore how this dessert is connected to seasonal fruit traditions, quotes from Anne series of books and community gatherings in the region.
• 4. Wrap-up & Q&A (5–10 mins) – We will review the completed dishes, reflect on what we learned, and take questions at the end. Of course, questions are welcome throughout the session.
