Beat The Heat with Drinks from the World of Anne of Green Gables

Tutor Stephanie has been teaching English for many years and has extensive experience in vocal singing. Over the past several years, she has also developed a strong passion for cooking and baking, learning and refining traditional family and maritime recipes.

She now enjoys sharing these recipes and cultural food experiences with students, friends, and families in Japan, combining language learning with hands-on cultural exploration.

• 1. Introduction (10〜15 mins) - We’ll review the list of ingredients and utensils and introduce the two traditional summer drinks: **Raspberry (Mixed Berry) Cordial** and **Old-Fashioned Lemonade**. Throughout the seminar, we will explore the cultural background of these refreshing beverages in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, their role in summer hospitality and community life, and their connection to the *Anne of Green Gables* series. Participants will also discover the famous Raspberry Cordial scene from the novel and learn how food and drink help bring Anne’s world to life.
• 2. Raspberry (Mixed Berry) Cordial Demonstration (25〜30 mins) - We will discuss what is cordial and I will demonstrate and guide everyone step by step through the preparation of this traditional fruit cordial.
• 3. Old-Fashioned Lemonade Demonstration (20〜25 mins) - I will demonstrate and guide everyone through the preparation of a traditional homemade lemonade, including making a simple lemon syrup and creating a refreshing summer drink. We will also explore how lemonade became a popular summer refreshment in Atlantic Canada and discuss its connection to hospitality, picnics, and community gatherings while drawing connections to the *Anne of Green Gables* series.
• 4. Wrap-up & Q&A (5〜10 mins) - We will compare both drinks, discuss how they were traditionally enjoyed, and explore their flavours. There will be time for questions and discussion, and of course, questions are welcome throughout the session.
