I recently received this book as a gift from the author. I really enjoyed this beautifully written story which takes place in South Carolina and follows three points of view — Olivia , Parisa , and Sophie- dealing with the topics like belonging and moving forward.
Olivia is an American living in Japan married to a Japanese man and has two children a son and a daughter Sophie who is representative of the deaf community and Parisa -- Olivia's Indian sister in law who they go to visit in America after the death of Olivia`s brother. This is a slice of life book with some delicate romance mixed in --All the characters are complex and interesting, and give a good look at a multicultural family. I really enjoyed this book and hope to share it with many of you -- It is of Intermediate level of English.

    Things Fall Apart
Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a powerful exploration of traditional African society and the devastating impact of colonialism. Set in pre-colonial Nigeria, the novel follows the life of Okonkwo, a respected wrestler and warrior.
As European missionaries and colonial powers encroach upon his village, Okonkwo grapples with cultural change, loss of identity, and the erosion of traditional values. The book offers a nuanced portrayal of the clash between Western and African cultures, highlighting the consequences of cultural imperialism and the resilience of the human spirit. I recommend this book for its insightful exploration of colonialism, its vivid portrayal of African culture, and its timeless themes of identity, tradition, and the human condition.

    Famous Five
This is a series of books about four children and their dog who go on adventures. In Britain, these books are very well-known and popular. They were published from the 1940s to 60s, so they have been a favourite for several generations.
My mother read them when she was young and then introduced them to me, so they are a special memory from my childhood.

Although they were written a long time ago, the English is still mostly clear and suitable for present-day readers. They are children's books, however, I recommend them even to adult readers. The level is good for intermediate students and the stories are fun even for adults. You can also learn a lot about British culture.

    Grandfather's Journey
I highly recommend Grandfather's Journey by Allen Say for several compelling reasons.

First and foremost, the book beautifully explores themes of family, identity, and the immigrant experience.
Through the eyes of a young boy reflecting on his grandfather's journey from Japan to America, readers are invited to consider the complexities of belonging and the pull of one's homeland. Say masterfully captures the emotional weight of nostalgia and the duality of living between two cultures, making it relatable to anyone who has experienced similar feelings of displacement or connection to their roots.

The illustrations are another standout feature. Say’s artwork is both poignant and evocative, complementing the narrative in a way that enhances the overall experience. Each page is filled with detailed images that reflect the beauty of both Japan and America, helping to immerse readers in the grandfather’s journey and emotions.

Additionally, the book is accessible to readers of all ages. Its straightforward yet profound storytelling makes it a great choice for children while also resonating deeply with adults. This timeless quality allows it to be a cherished read for families, promoting meaningful conversations about heritage and the stories that shape us.

Lastly, Grandfather's Journey serves as a reminder of the importance of remembering and honoring our family histories. It encourages readers to reflect on their own journeys and the stories passed down through generations, fostering a greater appreciation for the diverse experiences that shape our world.

Overall, Allen Say's Grandfather's Journey is a beautifully crafted book that not only tells a story but also invites introspection, making it a must-read for anyone interested in the power of personal narratives and cultural heritage.
