This is a picture of my old dog. His name is Alfie and he is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier (or "Staffie"). When I lived at home with my parents, I walked him every day after school (in the sunshine, the rain, or the snow!) Unfortunately, he passed away
last year when he was 12 years old. He was a very good boy and my family loved him very much - even when he behaved badly!
He was a rescue dog, which means we adopted
him from a center after he was abandoned
by his first owners. This is pretty common - around 27% of owners in the UK have adopted their pet through a rescue center.
According to research, these are the top ten
pets in the UK:
My favourite pets are dogs but I also love cats, rabbits, and tortoises!
Do you like pets? What kind of pets are popular in your country?
To pass away - to die (polite)
To adopt - to care for someone else's child (or pet!)
To abandon - to give away/leave something or someone
