The Internet and Language

Jul 31, 2019

Hello Everyone!

I have an advanced article this week for those who are interested in how the internet has, in just a short time, drastically changed the way we use English. This is an excerpt from a book so it's not complete, but it's very interesting.

One idea the author demonstrates is that now writing, like speaking, has a formal and an informal use and that our modern way of writing on the internet is not replacing our formal writing styles, merely creating a new social writing context. What do you think? Do you think that modern 'memes' and text abbreviations are the same as informal speech?

I'd love to hear your thoughts or comments below. Or, if you would rather, book a lesson and tell me what you think!

Have a great day!
