An American Greeting

2015年3月5日

Most people in America are constantly busy.

They are busy with their work, their kids, their partner, their pets, their houses, not heir cars, their everything!!
But, no one wants to seem like an unpleasant jerk and everyone wants to be recognized.
So what do they do??
"Hey, how are you??"
"Hi, I'm good. How are you??"
"I'm good. Nice seeing you."
"You too. See you later."
That's it.
But all with a smile of course.
Do they actually care how the other is doing?? More than likely not.
This is just a normal greeting for most people. Even if they don't care how the other is doing or that they know they will never see each other again.
This is just a normal greeting between people who have to be near each other for a certain amount of time or for those who accidentally made eye contact too many times and don't want to see rude or creepy.

Some cultures find this rude because they think that if you're going to ask how someone is doing, then you should listen and actually be interested in how their day is going. You should also intend on seeing them later if you say you're going to.
A lot of Americans will find some cultures (like the German cultures) to be rude because they only greet the people they actually know and want to talk to.

It never fails to amaze me while I travel how different cultures are from each other. Even when it comes to something as simple as a greeting.

So from an American to you, "See you later"!!
