Rescue Diving! :-)

Oct 15, 2019

Rescue Diving! ?? .

Iv been sorting through some old pictures lately and came across this one! This was taken at the end of my Rescue Diver exam in Okinawa, Japan.

.

I was pretty unlucky that the conditions were very bad and visibility was really poor during my final practical exam! But that’s what makes it an adventure! ??

.

I had choose an appropriate search pattern and then find a real person (a willing candidate!) who was laying at the bottom of the ocean like a lifeless victim, within a certain amount of time.

.

I then had to check their pulse, drag them to the surface and swim them back to shore, all while providing intermittent breaths of life and checking their airways and breathing! (There’s a lot more technical detail I’m not mentioning for the sake of space!)

.

It was far more difficult than it sounds, and after finally bringing the person safely to land (it takes a lot of time to do all of that!) if you made a single mistake in the procedure or it wasn’t up to perfect standard, you were made to do it all again! ????

.

This was only one small part of a series of days of practical exams after a long period of home study and theory.

.

Overall it was a very tiring, cold (I took my practical exams in February!!!) and mentally draining period of time - but I had the most fun ever, and it was the most rewarding course I have even taken in my life.

.

Learn as if you will live forever.

Love as if your life depends on it’
