My first visit to Japan! in May 2017.

2020年3月3日

Hello everyone! So I wanted to give a little back story on how I started my journey to end up living in Japan.

It all started back in May 2017 when  my best friend Nikki and I came to Japan on separate trips of self discovery. I came to escape the stress of my personal turmoil and rediscover myself  ( and meet my now Japanese husband in person) and Nikki came to discover a piece of her heritage as she is Japanese/Hungarian -Canadian.

Now, Nikki was supposed to come visit me next week from March 12th- March 19th and we havent seen each other in person for almost 3 years so we were both really excited ! but alas, the corna virus has stopped our plans as Canada has now deemed Japan a high risk area to visit  ( so, we are both feeling a bit sad about it, but this situation can`t be helped.)

So, now I am able to open more days and times for students to take lessons with me through Cafetalk! and since there are 14 cases of Corna virus in my city near my house, I`m not really going out much these days. So I`d love to have a chat with you!

So, it’s been three years since Nikki and I were playing gigs together, recording music together and working at the same private music school.  We were doing pretty great in our music careers and  having lots of fun, but life happens and we’ve both had to go in different directions now with our music and careers which became the journey to where we both are now. Which seemed to get started with our separate trips to Japan three years ago.

My 3 week escape to Japan became 3 years and longer now that I’m married to a Japanese man and It’s been quite the journey !

On this frist trip to Japan I visited and did many things:

1. Visit Yokohama and Yokohama Landmark tower
2. Visit the Ramen museum.
3. Yakushike park in Tokyo
4. Camping in Tanukiko ( my first time to go camping since I was about 10 years old.) and surrounding areas.
5. Visiting Kamakura
6. Visiting  Kyoto
7. Visiting the Ghibili Musuem.
8. Hiking Mount Mitake
9. Visit local parks and musuems
10. Visiting Disney Sea.

Out of these my favorite experiences  from this first visit that I still remember fondly were :
Yakushike Park  in Tokyo, Arashiyama in Kyoto , Mount Mitake, Heian Jingu in Kyoto ( I loved the garden) , eating raw shirasu in kamakura  and of course the city view from Yokohama Landmark tower it`s still one of my favourite places with visit.

See some pictures below of my favorite spots.  (PS. I look very differentt now then I did 3 years ago do to weight loss. I was a lot heavier back then. )

The main photo of this article is of hiking Mt. Mitake.

Eating Shirasu in Kamakura.

The garden in Heian Jingu in Kyoto

My favourite view from Landmark Tower!

Nothing like a nice walk at Yakushike Park!

What are your favourite places in Japan that you have visited?  Let`s have a chat and you can tell me about them. There are so many places still to discover!

Cheers,

StephanieRiann
