Ace your job or university interview!! Part 3

2020년 8월 9일

Hi, over the next few weeks I will be publishing regular advice on how to ace your job / university / MBA, or PhD interview. If you would like to book a lesson with me, I will provide you with a 28 page document that I have written with some sample questions and advice on how to answer them. In these articles that I am publishing, you will find a group of questions and the appropriate advice on how to answer them, and in some cases you will even find some sample answers. During a lesson, I will go through the questions with you, let you answer as if you were in an interview environment and then I will check, and if necessary, correct the content of your answer. I hope you find the following information useful and I really look forward to seeing you online if you choose a class with me! I am also offering a 20% discount for any new students for ANY of my lessons.

·       What were your responsibilities?

Explain about your exact role and what it entailed. Focus on people and project management and explain any increase in levels of responsibility you were given. Try to mention why you were given these responsibilities and emphasise your willingness to take them on!

·       What major challenges and problems did you face? How did you handle them?

Explain about any difficult issues that you dealt with, use real examples if possible and make sure the examples you use had a positive outcome. Try not to mention personality conflicts with other members of staff or management, and focus on how you resolved any challenges or problems.

·       What have you learned from your mistakes?

Everyone makes mistakes, it is part of our development and makes us what we are. Try to use a real life example of a small error that you made in the workplace, how you resolved it, and most importantly, what you learned from making the mistake and the actions you took to ensure it was never repeated.

·       What did you like or dislike about your previous job?

Try to list at least 2-4 aspects of your previous or current job that you really like and try to match these likes with the job description of the position you are applying for. Do not be to damning or negative about your previous or current job as employers do not wish to have cynical people in their teams. It is ok to mention a couple of things you disliked, but the ‘likes’ should always outnumber the ‘dislikes’.

·       What was the most rewarding aspect of your previous job?

Explain one or two aspects of your job that you found particularly rewarding. Focus on the achievement of goals/objectives, customer feedback, career progression or recognition from top management. Do not say that the high salary was the most rewarding part (even if it is true!)…. employers want to know that there are other reasons apart from money that you enjoy coming to work!
