Weekly Topic: Children's Books for Recommendation

Storytime  is a great way for children to explore literacy, creativity and imagination. It also enables children to have some down time, to slow down the body and to rest and relax and explore their imagination at the same time. Here are some of my favourite childrens picture books that convey messages of kindness, sharing, acceptance and environmental awareness.

  • Whoever You Are- By Mem Fox
Whoever You Are explores the concept of multiculturalism. It discusses the different ethnicity, cultures, schools, languages, food and different ways of living across the globe. A must read with your children.

  • This is Our house-By Michael Rosen.

This is our House is another story about differences, similarities, acceptance and turn taking. A great story to read if your child is learning turn taking/sharing.

  •  Where the Forest Meets the Sea- By Jeannie Baker

I absolutely love the illustration in Jeannie Bakers books! This book is definitely one of my favourites! It describes the Australian daintree forest in North Queensland. This book is mostly illustrated and leaves room for childrens' interpretation. It is a great book to read and discuss environmental preservation.

  • The Rainbow fish -By Marcus Pfister

The Rainbow Fish not only focuses on friendship but how to become a good friend. The story also explores the concept of kindness, sharing and empathy which can open up ideas to discuss with children.

Note* You can find these stories on youtube. I also offer childrens' story time and activities on my tutor page, feel free to check it out or suggest a story for me to read.

Thank you for reading and have a great week!
