South Biwa lake (Shiga Prefecture) Adventures

Nov 2, 2020

Last week on Oct 21st we headed out on a short 5-6 day holiday. We drove about 5 hours to Shiga prefecture to start our adventures.

We slept overnight at a local Michi no Eki ( Roadside station ) on Oct 20th evening  and then started our next day Oct 21st in Hikone. We spent the morning at the Hikone Castle ( still original and considered a national treasure) exploring the gardens the castle and taking a boat ride in the moat around the castle ground.

In the afternoon we headed to the ruins of Nobunaga`s castle in Azuchi. This is something my hsuband was very interested in and for me it was a great hike. LOL . There was mostly just rocks and staircases but no buildings really left. Later we went to a couple of museums that had great recreation of the the castle so you could see what it looked like.

The next morning we stopped in Ohachimanburi and walked along the well known riverside it was quite and peaceful morning before heading onward to our next destination of Northern Kyoto Prefecture.

Stay tuned for the next blog installment of our trip in the coming days !
Also check out my Pillow book adventures in Kyoto City -- already published on this blog ( that took place around day 4 of our trip. )

stay tuned !
