Celebrating Christmas

Weekly Topic: How do you celebrate your Christmas/Hanukkah this year?

Christmas day, December 25th, is my favorite day of the year. I like it even more than my birthday! The reason that I like it is because of all the meanings that the day carries for me. It is a day of rest, gratefulness, giving, and love. It is like all of the holidays in the year combined into one happy day.

I celebrate Christmas by opening gifts, giving gifts, singing songs, watching movies, and eating good food. We do not eat chicken and cake on Christmas in America! We eat ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, pies, cookies, and steamed vegetables.

My favorite part of Christmas though is the decorations! I decorate for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. I like to decorate the whole house!

The most important decoration for Christmas is the Christmas Tree. This year, I have a small Christmas Tree in Japan. In America though, most people have Christmas Trees that are 2 meters tall!

The next most important is stockings! These stockings are filled with small presents from Daiso and Seriya. My family believes that presents shouldn't be expensive, just from the heart.

There are some decorations in my bedroom, too. Aren't the Christmas lights calming? On Christmas Eve night, it is tradition to leave all of the Christmas lights on all night.

I even have decorations outside my apartment! Here is a wreath that I have by my front door.

This is only some of the many decorations for Christmas that I have. I miss Christmas in the US, so I try to decorate the inside of my apartment in Japan to look as Christmas-like as possible!
