Cyclone in Cairns

Mar 2, 2021

Today there is a cyclone off the coast of Cairns, Australia where I live. Yesterday it came very close to the coast and we had some very damaging winds.
I went out for a walk this morning and saw so many big trees have been blown down.

Cairns has cyclones every year, just as Japan has typhoons.
A cyclone, a typhoon and a hurricane are all the same thing, but they have different names depending on their geographical location!

Cyclones are in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean

Typhoons are in the Northwest Pacific Ocean

Hurricanes are in North Atlantic Ocean and Northeast Pacific Ocean.

Have you experienced one of these weather events?  What was it like? Did it cause any damage?

Why not take one of my trial lessons and we can talk about this or any other topic you like.
You can practice your English conversation, and I can provide valuable feedback on how you can improve too!

I look forward to meeting you!
Jill
