Foods That Represent Spring

Today is April 19th, 2021, and spring is in the air. After being cooped up indoors throughout the cold winter months, the sun has finally come out, the sky has turned a crisp blue color, the air is warmed as the sunlight penetrates it, and plants thaat have been asleep for the last five months are waking up.

To me, spring is all about starting anew. Spring is about rebirth, reinventing oneself, and enjoying everything there is to appreciate about life. As far as I'm concerned, this is exactly what's represented by fresh fruits and raw vegetables. Now, it may sound as if I picked foods that aren't that exotic, but honestly, which other foods scream "Spring time!" more than fruits and vegetables?

First of all, spring is a time when grasses, trees, and flowers regain their colors. All winter long, plants practically lose their soul during the frozen months, making the landscapes we're familiar with look desolate and depressing.

But as soon as the temperature starts to rise, it's like the plants were secretly counting down their release from sleep to the last second! Those colors pop out so that you can't avoid it! Fresh fruits and vegetables have the same effect on me. All those firey reds, bright blues sunny yellows and jade greens make me feel warm and happy on the inside.

Secondly, spring time is the land's time to shine. Without the earth, we would have no food, right? That would be terrible! Vegetables have a kind of earthy taste to them that remind me of the land, the place we all come from, the place we all live by. They're green most of the time, too, giving off those fresh, spring vibes. Broccoli in particular literally looks like mini trees! How perfect is that? 

Thirdly, the season of spring, as mentioned, is a time to reinvent yourself, a time to think about how to improve as a person and live your best possible life. It might be strange to compare this concept with something as undistinguished as a fruit or a vegetable, but have you ever bitten into a juicy orange after a long, tiring day and instantly felt rejuvenated? I certainly have. 

The cool thing about fruits and veggies is that you can pretty much eat them whenever you want. At any time of day, at any time of the year. True, some fruits or vegetables aren't in season during certain months, but the power of the ones that are available remains the same. I think that's special.

Plus, the health benefits of every vegetable and fruit you lay your eyes on is indisputable! A person can never take a bite out of an apple or a stick of celery and think, "Oh man, I should really watch my sugar intake. I already ate a piece of watermelon and a bowl of cauliflower this week! What would doctor say about my cholesterol?!" 

You can't go wrong with these foods. Sit back, relax, and chow down! Happy Spring! :)
