My One Wish for the World

Weekly Topic: If you could magically make just one wish come true, what would it be?

Sarah R.

My one wish is simple. If I could wish for anything, it would be to see peace and happiness for all people of this world. For the suffering of all beings to cease. For humans to co-exist in harmony. As idealistic as it may sound, that is my one wish and I will elaborate...

In recent times, the global situation has made me question a lot. Sometimes, it is better not to question, as it would take a lot of inquiry to understand certain things - as certain things, do not have an answer. I'm sure that many has seen the current events of civil unrest in South Africa. It is heartbreaking and deeply saddening for me to bear witness to everything that is happening, not only in my country but in many other places around the world. On the brighter side; which media and news broadcasting channels do not always portray is that there are many, many South Africans coming together right now to minimise the tensions. I've seen so many acts of kindness all around and it has been so humbling.

To conclude, the less idealistic approach would be to work daily towards playing a part in achieving my initial wish. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "you must be the change you wish to see in the world". To strive to always be a kind and authentic person. To extend a hand, to help and to contribute positively where I can, to all those I encounter. And lastly, to be a sense of peace for those who need it most.
