Most people might think of intense dry heat when they think of Arizona. This is true. It is very dry and very hot. Most people might think of using an air conditioner in an Arizona summer. This is also true. Arizona is dry and hot in the summer. This is ideal for running air conditioners. This does not distinguish Arizona’s summer though.

Arizona is dry and hot, but this can happen rather early. Arizonans use air conditioners frequently, but this can begin rather early as well.

Arizona’s monsoon season begins around mid June. It can last until August, maybe even September. The timing of Arizona’s monsoon is what brings to my mind the beginner of summer. It isn’t that rain actually starts in mid June though. Arizona monsoons are sudden and fast moving. We can get flash floods with very little warning. So it isn’t that wind, thunder or lightening make me think of summer.

It is that everyone knows that monsoon season has started. That makes me think that Arizona summer has began. Everyone knows about monsoon season. A monsoon storm could begin any week. A sudden dust storm, lightening and thunder, severe wind or rain, all these could happen. Mid June everyone hears on the news that monsoon season has started. We hear that we have to be careful in case of sudden monsoon storms. This makes me feel that summer has finally arrived.
