My daily life: Fall 2021

每週主題: This is how I enjoy my daily life!

2021年10月19日

My day usually starts when my alarm goes off at 6:30AM. Sometime between then and 7:00AM, I drag myself out of bed and take a shower. Then I make a cup of coffee and a small breakfast, like toast and peanut butter. I turn on my computer and check my email, Cafetalk messages, and the news. At 8:00AM, I start my first lesson. Because of the time difference, I always have to remember to say “Good evening!” to my students (even though it’s morning here!).

Most days, I only have one or two morning lessons because then I have to change roles from teacher to student and prepare for my Master’s program classes that begin around 11:30AM. This means taking some time to review my notes and prepare for any presentations I have to do that day. The classes include subjects like second language instruction, technology mediated learning, and research methods, and they last for two to three hours.

After finishing a class, I’m usually very motivated to keep working on something, but I try to take a break and get away from my computer. I eat something and then read a book or go for a walk while listening to something interesting. Recently, I’ve been listening to (and sometimes watching) videos from a YouTube channel called Kurzgesagt, which has a lot of interesting science and technology content.

Then it’s back to work, reading research articles, writing essays, preparing presentations, meeting with group members, and finally doing one or two more lessons on Cafetalk. I usually finish by 9:00PM and then eat dinner. I might watch something, like a movie or a hockey game, or just listen to music and relax. Then I take a shower to get ready for bed and finally go to sleep around 11:30PM.

When I have some free time, usually on Friday or Saturday, I like to read (I’m still working on Obama’s “A Promised Land”), watch a movie (I recently saw Coming 2 America, Star Trek: Into Darkness, and The Craft), build a LEGO model (an owl in a pumpkin patch for Halloween was the most recent one), go for a walk in one of the many nearby parks, or just enjoy a beer on my balcony (although it’s getting cold out there!). Once in a while, I’m able to meet up with some friends, too, like last weekend when an ex-coworker visited from Nova Scotia and we carved pumpkins. So, that’s how I enjoy my daily life in fall 2021!
