My Next Destination is…

I can’t say that I have a destination in mind in the sense that was probably intended by this topic.  That is, right now, there is nowhere in Japan or anywhere else in the world that I am planning on visiting in the near future.

However, in another sense, I do believe that life is a journey and that we stop off at destinations on the way.  Having said that,  I think it is better not to think too much about the past or the future because these things do not really exist.  Only the ‘present’ is our actual reality that we exist in. That is why it is called a ‘present.’ It is a gift from nature or God or whatever that everybody receives and it is up to us to use it to the maximum by focusing only on what we are doing right now and giving it maximum effort.  As Marcus Aurelius said in ‘Meditations’:

‘Concentrate every minute like a Roman-like a man-on doing what’s in front of you with precise and genuine seriousness, tenderly, willingly. with justice. And on freeing yourself from all other distractions. Yes, you can-if you do everything as if it were the last thing you were doing in your life, and stop being aimless, stop letting your emotions override what your mind tells you, stop being hypocritical, self-centered, irritable.. You see how few things you have to do to live a satisfying and reverent life? If you can manage this, that’s all even the gods can ask of you.’

So, my current destination is now. I have just arrived.
