The interesting reason the British drink tea with milk

周间主题: There are many different ways to prepare a tea around the world. How do you usually drink yours?

James

Like so many Brits I drink black tea with milk. Tea has been popular for hundreds of years in Britain particularly when tea was being imported from British India. Today, coffee is becoming more popular but it is believed British people drink 100 million cups of tea a day. For many people it's strange that the British drink tea with milk but there was a very good reason for it.

In the 17th and 18th Centuries the china cups the tea was served in was so delicate they would crack from the heat of the tea. Milk was added to cool the tea and stop the cups from cracking.

There are different ways people make tea in Britain. I place the tea bag in the cup and add the hot water and let it brew for at least a minute before adding a splash of milk. Some people add the milk to the cup first and then add the tea bag followed by the hot water.

How do you make your tea?
