My summer plan is to buy Danjuro at the Asagao Festival. Do you know about Iriya Morning Glory Festival?
Morning glories are summer tradition in Japan, and the Morning Glory Festival is held from July 6th to 8th every year near Iriya Station.
Danjuro is the name of a morning glory. The name Danjuro was given to Kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro because the color of the kimono he wore in one of his performances was similar to the color of this morning glory.
It's a beautiful color, isn't it?
When we think of morning glories, we tend to think of bright colors such as blue or reddish-purple, but this dull color gives an elegant and classical impression.
In addition, this variety is difficult to collect seeds, so it is highly rare.
There are many similar varieties, but the real Danjuro have no patterns on their flowers or leaves, and their leaves are clear yellow-green color.
The combination of dusty-grape-brown and yellow-green is very eye-catching.
Danjuro is often sold out on the first day, but there are many other rare morning glories as well. Their names are also interesting. I don't think there is any other opportunity to see so many morning glories at once.It's truly amazing!
This area has an old town atmosphere, and there is Iriya Kishimojin shrine which is very famous in Japan. It's a fun festival with lots of stalls, so I highly recommend it!

私の夏の予定は、朝顔市で団十郎を買うことです。
みなさん、入谷の朝顔市を知っていますか？
朝顔は日本の夏の風物詩で、毎年7月6日〜8日の3日間、入谷駅の近くで朝顔市が開催されます。
団十郎というのは、朝顔の名前です。
（なんだ歌舞伎役者じゃないのか。と思った人はスルドイです。）
歌舞伎役者の市川團十郎が、ある演目で着ていた着物の色がこの朝顔の色と似ていたことから、団十郎という名が付けられました。
素敵な色ですよね。朝顔といえば、青や赤紫の鮮やかな色を連想しがちですが、このくすみがかった色が上品で、格式高い印象を受けます。
また、この品種は種を取るのが難しく、希少性の高いものです。
似ている品種は色々あるのですが、本物の団十郎は、花にも葉にも模様はなく、また、葉の色はすっきりとした黄緑色です。
葡萄茶色と黄緑色のコンビネーションが、すごく目を惹きます。
どうですか？みなさんも見てみたいでしょう？！
団十郎は初日に売り切れてしまうことも多いのですが、他にもめずらしい朝顔がたくさんあります。ネーミングも面白いです。
こんなに一度に朝顔を見ることができる機会は他にはないと思います。
まさに圧巻です！
この地域は下町の風情が残り、有名な入谷鬼子母神もあります。
出店もたくさんあり楽しいお祭りなので、足を運んでみてはいかがですか？
