Do you know how to ask permission in English?
英語で許可を求める方法を知っていますか？
Many textbooks teach these phrases:
多くの教科書がこれらのフレーズを教えています
May I....?
Can I...?
Could I...?
For example: 例
“May I use your computer?”
“Can I use your computer?”
“Could I use your computer?”
These are fine, but there are other phrases which are often used by native speakers.
これらもいいですが、ネイティブ・スピーカーがよく使うフレーズは他にもあります。

1. Is it ok if I...?
This is really common and has a friendly nuance.
これは本当によく使われて、友好的なニュアンスがあります。
“Is it ok if I use your computer?”
2. Is it alright if I...?
This is also very common and has a friendly nuance.
これも非常に一般的で、友好的なニュアンスがあります。
“Is it alright if I use your computer?”
3. Do you mind if I....?
This is a little more polite.
これはもう少し礼儀正しいです。
“Do you mind if I use your computer?”
If someone asks you this, be careful how you answer.
こう聞かれたら、答え方に気をつけましょう。
“Do you mind if I...?” means “Is it a problem if I...?”.
“Do you mind if I...?” は「私が...しても問題ないですか？」という意味です。
So if the answer is “yes”, this means that it is a problem!
つまり、答えが“yes”なら、それは問題だということです！
If it’s ok for someone to use your computer, the correct answer is:
もし誰かがあなたのコンピューターを使ってもいいのなら、正解はこうです：“No, that’s no problem. Please go ahead.”
4. Would it be ok if I....[過去形動詞]?
If you want to ask permission in a more formal way, use “would” at the beginning of the sentence, and change the verb to the past simple tense.
より正式な方法で許可を求める場合は、文頭に “would” を使い、動詞を過去形に変えます。
This is common in business, to speak to clients and superiors.
これはビジネスでは一般的で、クライアントや上司に話すときに使えます。
“Would it be ok if I used your computer?”
