Hi, It's Zia how are you?
The most common mistake my students make is not knowing when to use the articles! A, an , the and zero article have very different usages.
For example:
A/An (indefinite article):
- I saw a dog in the park.
(Use "a" when talking about something for the first time or something general.)
-
The (definite article):
- The dog I saw yesterday was black.
(Use "the" when referring to something specific or already mentioned.)
- The dog I saw yesterday was black.
-
Zero Article (no article):
- I like dogs.
(Use no article for general statements about things, animals, or concepts.)
- I like dogs.
Do you like cats or dogs? (Hmmm...why did I use the zero article there?)
Let's chat! If you liked this tip, then lets have a quick lesson about it and practice.
I'm a native English speaker from Australia.
Hope you meet you soon!
