Hello everyone!
I hope you're all doing well! I wanted to share something interesting about Iran. This month, we celebrate a very unique and cheerful national holiday called Sizdah Bedar, which happens on the 13th day of Farvardin (the first month of the Iranian calendar). In the Gregorian calendar, it usually falls on April 1st or 2nd.
Sizdah Bedar is the final celebration of Nowruz (Persian New Year). On this day, families and friends leave their homes and spend the day outdoors, in parks, gardens, or nature. It’s like a national picnic day! People bring homemade food, drinks, tea, and snacks. We sit on blankets, chat, laugh, and enjoy the fresh air after a long winter.
One interesting part of this tradition is throwing away the “Sabzeh” (a pot of green sprouts) that was grown at home during Nowruz. The green sprouts are a symbol of growth and renewal, but on Sizdah Bedar we throw them into running water — like a river — to get rid of bad luck and start fresh.
Sizdah Bedar is a great reminder for us to relax, enjoy nature, and recharge before going back to work or study. It’s one of the happiest days in Iran, and if you ever visit the country during this time, you will see parks and green spaces full of people!
