How to Make Okonomiyaki and Give Clear Instructions

Gly Gly

Eating well helps you work and study better. One great healthy lunch idea is okonomiyaki, a Japanese savory pancake made with cabbage, egg, and your choice of protein. It’s tasty, filling, and easy to prepare. In this lesson, we’ll use the okonomiyaki recipe to practice giving instructions in Business English.

First, prepare your ingredients: flour, water, one egg, shredded cabbage, green onions, and chicken or tofu.

Next, mix the flour, water, and egg in a bowl until smooth.

Then, add the cabbage and green onions and stir everything together.

After that, heat a pan with a little oil. Pour in the mixture and shape it into a round pancake.

Cook for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden brown.

Finally, top it with okonomiyaki sauce and light mayonnaise, if you like.

This recipe is not only healthy, it also helps you practice sequencing words like first, next, then, and finally — words often used in business instructions.

Business Tip: Use this same structure when explaining tasks, like how to schedule a meeting or write a report!
