## Tourism in Egypt: Growth and Outlook

Egypt’s tourism sector has seen a strong recovery in recent years. After a sharp decline during the COVID-19 pandemic—reaching just **3.5 million tourists in 2020**—the country bounced back with **11.7 million visitors in 2022** and a record **15.7 million in 2024**. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, **3.9 million tourists** arrived, marking a **25% increase** over the same period in 2024.

This rapid growth has greatly benefited Egypt’s economy. In 2024, tourism contributed over **EGP 1.4 trillion**, or **8.5% of GDP**, and supported **2.7 million jobs**. Key attractions like the Pyramids of Giza and the newly opened **Grand Egyptian Museum** have helped drive international interest.

The government aims to reach **30 million tourists per year by 2028**, and is expanding infrastructure, including hotels and airports, to support this goal. However, challenges remain, such as environmental concerns on the Red Sea coast and overcrowding at major sites.

Despite these issues, Egypt remains one of the world’s most attractive tourist destinations, with strong potential for continued growth.
