My hobby new hobby is American Mahjong (sometimes spelled Mah Jongg). Many of you may be familiar British/Hong Kong Mahjong or other varieties of the game. Like other types of Majhong, it is played with tiles which are divided into suits, like playing cards. Although it resembles other forms of Mahjong, there are two things which distinguish American Mahjong from other versions of the gam. First, we use 152 tiles instead of the 144 tiles typically used. The "extra" tiles are jokers which can substitute for any other tile. Personally, I think they are inspired by the game of Poker which is loved in America. The second thing which makes our game unique is list of hands which must be exactly replicated in order to win. Every player owns and treasures "the card" which lists the winning hands. Jokers and the list of winning hands make American Mahjong a game of both luck and skill adding to the appeal of the game.
American Mahjong is played in various settings including homes and libraries and elegant clubs. The number of players is always a multiple of four as it takes four to play. The game is said to enhance memory and concentration but people love it most of all because it is fun!
