How are you? Can you believe that the winter weather is slowly starting to creep in these days in Canada? It's still only the end of August! I understand it is very hot in Asia, especially in Japan with unprecedented scorching hot temperatures. I wouldn't know what I would do if the temperature was almost 40 degrees Celcius. I think I would melt.
Before you get too envious of the cooler summer weather in Canada, might I remind you that it's brutally cold during the winter. It gets to around minus 40 degrees celcius sometimes. I guess no place is perfect. We might as well enjoy the tepid and comfortable weather when it comes around. Having said that, I hope you have a chance to cool off in air-conditioned places for the remainder of the summer with unbearable heat.

[Black-Tie Event:]
I went to a Black-Tie Event recently. My husband and I got all dressed up to go to the Regina International Film Festival in our city. They showed the nominated films for two weeks for the audience to view, and nominate their favorite film for the Awards. There were a variety of foreign, domestic, and many independent films entered into film festivals.

A social event, gathering, or occasion that requires guests to wear formal evening attire, typically a tuxedo and black bow tie for men and a formal evening gown for women.
Example sentence: The charity gala was a black-tie event, so all the guests arrived in elegant evening wear.

When we first got there, we had some wine. During the Award Show they handed out candied- popcorn to everyone. After the Award Ceremony, we had a party so we can network with other people in the industry. I met other actors, directors, producers, and other people involved in film production. It was nice to be around like-minded people. We also had hors-devours and cocktails. It was very fancy!
It's been a while since I took off some time from my daily teaching schedule, so I wanted to share my excursion with you. Overall, it was a refreshing and invigorating change of scenery! I hope you have a wonderful day and I look forward to seeing you soon!
PS: It looks like I won an Award because I'm holding the statue/trophy, but I didn't win anything. It's only a prop for the picture.

お元気ですか？ カナダでは、もう冬の気配が少しずつ近づいてきています。まだ8月の終わりだというのに！ アジア、特に日本では前例のない猛暑が続いていて、とても暑いと聞いています。気温が40度近くなるなんて、私には想像もつきません。きっと溶けてしまいそうです。
ただ、カナダの涼しい夏をうらやましく思う前に思い出してください。冬は容赦なく厳しく、マイナス40度くらいになることもあります。どこも完璧な場所はないのですね。だからこそ、心地よく過ごしやすい季節を大切にしないといけないと思います。日本では猛暑が続いていると思いますが、残りの夏はどうかエアコンの効いた場所で少しでも快適に過ごしてくださいね。
【ブラックタイ・イベント】
先日、ブラックタイ・イベントに参加しました。夫と私は盛装して、地元で行われた「レジャイナ国際映画祭」に出かけました。2週間にわたり、ノミネートされた映画が上映され、観客が投票してお気に入りの作品を選ぶ仕組みになっていました。上映作品は海外作品、国内作品、そして多くのインディペンデント映画など、多彩なラインナップでした。

ゲストに正式なイブニングドレスコードが求められる社交イベントや集まりのこと。男性はタキシードに黒の蝶ネクタイ、女性はイブニングドレスを着用するのが一般的です。

私が出席した夜は、各部門の最優秀作品に賞が授与されました。部門は短編映画、長編映画、ドキュメンタリー、アニメーションなどさまざまで、全体的にとても魅力的な授賞式でした。参加して本当によかったです。
会場に着いてすぐワインをいただき、ショーの最中にはキャンディーコーティングされたポップコーンが配られました。授賞式の後はパーティーが開かれ、業界の人たちと交流することができました。俳優、監督、プロデューサー、そして制作関係者など、多くの人たちに出会え、とても刺激的でした。
普段は英語を教える日々ですが、久しぶりに少し時間を取って外の世界に触れたので、この体験をみなさんと共有したいと思いました。とてもリフレッシュできて、いい気分転換になりました！
