A little peek behind the scenes of my lessons

Weekly Topic: A little peek behind the scenes of my lessons

Ann K

Have you ever wondered how teachers design their lessons?  Most of us have a specialty.  Mine is conversational English focused upon a theme (i.e. travel) with gentle corrections if desired.  Students usually love the opportunity for guided conversation with a native speaker in a fun and relaxed atmosphere!

Here's how a typical class is organized: After a warm-up, students are familiarized with theme-related vocabulary and idioms (including their use in context).  Next, we converse with the help of targeted questions. After our discussion, I offer targeted corrections - if desired. Next, students often have the chance to listen to native speakers with various accents discuss the theme of the day.  Before the lesson closes, students are offered the opportunity ask questions.

At the end of the class, students will have learned new vocabulary and idioms and will have practiced speaking and listening. They will also have benefitted from targeted corrections (if desired).
