Second year teaching & Winter Solstice in Scotland.

Hannah N

I have now been teaching on Cafetalk for just over two years! Thank you so much to all my wonderful students, I'm very grateful for all the fun lessons we did together in 2025.

This weekend was the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year in Scotland. At the moment, sunrise is just before 9am, and sunset is just before 4pm! Although the days are short, I love the winter light, on sunny days the light seems even stronger than in summer. There is no snow where I live sadly, hopefully it will snow sometime!

I hope everyone is managing to enjoy the winter, and I hope everyone has a relaxing new year holiday. :)

Hi Liz, yes it's been a very mild December! Perhaps January will be colder. Happy Christmas! :)

Hi Hannah, Congratulations on the 2 years! I was so relieved earlier when I realised that the nights will start drawing out again soon. No snow here in Wales either, it's been an exceptionally mild, wet December so far. I wonder if we're due a cold snap early next year? Hope you have a lovely Christmas.
