I was so happy when I saw the weekly topic because I am someone who is a little bit obsessed with movies and books, but the big problem is it’s very difficult to choose just one to talk about!
There was a movie that I watched when I was a child and it is one that I still watch to this day, and that is “School of Rock”. It is one of my all-time favourite movies and I can watch it over and over again and never get bored.
It is so much more than just a funny musical movie. It has some really inspiring messages and characters in it.
For those who maybe don’t know the movie, it is about an unsuccessful rock star who gets fired from his band and people all think he’s a loser. He pretends to be a substitute teacher at a fancy school so that he can make some money fast (even though he has no idea what he is doing). He doesn’t teach the kids anything and just lets them play all day, until he hears them playing musical instruments in their music class one day and he gets a bright idea: He is going to turn his class into a band and enter the Battle of the Bands to revive his music career.
He helps the kids embrace who they are and build their confidence and focus on what makes them unique. He also teaches them to “stick it to the man”, (the “man” being people in positions of power) by never letting anyone tell you who to be or control your life.
I am someone who has always struggled a little bit to fit in, so this movie inspired me to be myself and taught me that it doesn’t matter if some people don’t understand you, as there will always be people who will accept and appreciate you for who you are.
