Fooled by "Japanese Works in Taiwan!" The Shocking Truth I Found Out at the Airport [Part 3]

Megu3

Hello everyone! I'm Meg, currently living in Taiwan.

It's another super hot day in Taiwan today~!

Now, regarding what I mentioned at the end of my last post—"The reason why I screamed 'THIS IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED AT ALL!!!!'"—did any of you guess it?

That's right! It was what my friend told me... "Japanese works perfectly fine in Taiwan!"

...I was completely fooled (haha)!

Actually, the first place I moved to wasn't Taipei, but a local town in southern Taiwan called "Pingtung." (Back then, it was a very local area with hardly any foreigners around!)

Which meant... you guessed it. Japanese didn't work AT ALL!!!!

"Whaaaat?! Oh no, what am I going to do..."

Well, panicking wouldn't change anything. I had already arrived in Taiwan, and there was no way I could just fly back home right then (haha). All I could do was laugh at myself for my complete lack of research beforehand.

And so, my life in Taiwan kicked off with sheer shock and confusion. Starting the very next day, my first steps as a Japanese language teacher began!

In a local town where no one understood my language, what kind of chaotic life was waiting for me...? Stay tuned for the next episode!

☕️ A Little Note from Meg "I love local spots in Taiwan!" "I want to hear about crazy stories living abroad with a language barrier!" Any topic is more than welcome!
