Hello everyone! I'm Meg, a Japanese language teacher.
So, the lessons finally began! ...or rather, my journey as a "babysitter" officially began (haha).
To put it simply, my daily routine looked something like this:
-
Feeding them breakfast
-
Accompanying them during lunch
-
Taking them to the bathroom
-
Tucking them in for naptime
Of course, I taught Japanese as well, but in the beginning, I don't think I could do much actual teaching at all.
Why? Because the kids never arrived on time! They cried their eyes out when parting with their parents! And they refused to even set foot in the classroom until they got used to the environment!
Is it the same in Japanese kindergartens? (haha) Anyway, I was completely playing the role of a babysitter rather than a Japanese teacher.
At first, I thought to myself, "Is a kindergarten teacher really supposed to do all of this...?" Yet, somehow, I ended up keeping this job for over a year.
Why was I able to stick with it? The answer is simple: Because the kids were just SO adorable!!!
Watching them try their absolute best to speak Japanese. Seeing them run toward me shouting "Meg Sensei~!" whenever they saw me. And their brilliant, pure smiles.
Looking at them, all the hardship and exhaustion just melted away. Their cuteness won by a mile!
...However. Despite loving those kids so much, I resigned from that job after a year and a half.
Why did I quit when I loved them so much...? I'll tell you the reason in my next column, so stay tuned!
