Today, Indigo bookstores in Canada held an event to give away 10,000 books, and my wife and I were able to pick up two very nice ones (getting books for free is amazing!). One was "The Wager," which I have written about before. I had read this book but didn't own a copy until today. The other was "Persepolis," which is a graphic novel I have heard a lot about but never read. Both books are based on real historical events, with "The Wager" telling "a tale of shipwreck, mutiny, and murder" aboard a British ship in the 1700s, and "Persepolis" telling the story of a young girl in Tehran during and after the Islamic Revolution in the 1970s and 80s. "The Wager" is a #1 New York Times bestseller and "Persepolis" has been listed as one of the New York Times's 100 Best Books of the 21st Century. I can certainly recommend "The Wager" to anyone who enjoys historical non-fiction, and I look forward to reading "Persepolis" soon! What are you guys reading these days?
