A Movie I'd Recommend for a Cozy Evening

I have to confess — I am not much of a movie connoisseur.

In fact, I have a very short attention span when it comes to movies. If a story doesn't catch my attention fairly quickly, I usually lose interest.

So when a good friend recommended Remarkably Bright Creatures, I was a little unsure. But it was a rainy afternoon, I had some time, and I thought, Why not? Let's give it a try.

The official description certainly wasn't something that would normally have convinced me:

Sally Field stars as a grieving night-shift cleaner who bonds with a clever giant Pacific octopus in the Netflix film adaptation of Shelby Van Pelt's bestselling novel.

A grieving cleaner and an octopus?

Well... let me just say that Marcellus and Tova had my attention very quickly indeed.

The story of Tova, a woman quietly dealing with loss, and Marcellus, the remarkably intelligent giant Pacific octopus she encounters during her night shifts, is unexpected, touching and beautifully told. And when Cameron, a young drifter searching for direction, enters the story, everything becomes even more special.

What surprised me most was how invested I became in these characters. I found myself wanting to know what would happen next — something that doesn't happen easily when I watch a movie!

And Marcellus? He really was a remarkably bright creature.

The story has warmth, humour, friendship and a gentle sense of mystery running through it. It is the kind of movie that makes you slow down for a while and simply become part of the story.

And the ending?

Let's just say that it was heart-wrenching. ❤️

So, if you're looking for something for a quiet, rainy evening — perhaps with a cup of tea, a blanket and absolutely no desire for explosions or complicated action scenes — Remarkably Bright Creatures might just be worth giving a chance.

Sometimes the best movies are the ones you never expected to love.
