A Little Taste of Colombia: Have You Tried an Empanada?

Angie T

One of my favorite Colombian foods is the empanada!

Unlike some empanadas made with wheat flour, Colombian empanadas are usually made with corn dough and filled with ingredients like potatoes, beef, or chicken. They're crispy on the outside and delicious on the inside!

In Japan, the closest thing you might find is a croquette (コロッケ). Both are crispy and often enjoyed as snacks, but they're quite different: Colombian empanadas are made with corn dough, while Japanese croquettes are usually made with breadcrumbs (パン粉).

We usually eat empanadas as a snack, and they're even better with ají, a spicy Colombian sauce.

Living in Japan makes me appreciate these little tastes of home even more!

Have you ever tried a Colombian empanada? Or what's your favorite Japanese food?
