Success Is the Moment You Say It Anyway

주간 토픽: What “success” means to me

Rubis

When I think about success, I don’t picture a certificate or a perfect test score. I picture a small moment: someone opening their mouth in a meeting, at a café or on the phone, and saying what they wanted to say – in a language that isn’t their first.

I’ve had those moments myself. As a French speaker who has lived and worked in different countries – and who learned Spanish and is now learning Korean – I know the feeling of understanding almost everything… and then freezing when it’s my turn to speak. The words are somewhere in my head, but they don’t come out in time.

Over the years, I’ve realised that success in a language isn’t about knowing more. It’s about being able to use what you already know, when it matters. That idea is at the heart of my work as a certified Neurolanguage Coach®.

For many of the adults I coach, success looks like this:

• Asking a question in a meeting instead of staying silent
• Joining small talk with colleagues without rehearsing every sentence
• Making a phone call without writing a script first
• Feeling relaxed enough to make a mistake – and keep going

None of these require perfect grammar. They require confidence, a few useful phrases you can trust, and practice in situations that feel real.

That’s why I like to measure success in small steps. One sentence you didn’t dare to say last month. One conversation that felt a little easier. These moments add up, and one day you notice that speaking English (or French!) has stopped feeling like a test.

So, what does success mean to me? It means helping you reach that day – and enjoying the conversations along the way.

If you’d like to take your next small step, I’d be happy to meet you in a relaxed 25-minute conversation coaching session. You can start with a free 15-minute trial.
