14 Students, 5 Countries, One Passion for Italy!

Cafetalk

Giovanni

Hello everyone! I'm Giovanni, an Italian language tutor on Cafetalk.

Today, I'd like to share the story of my very first Cafetalk seminar, which took place at the beginning of October.

The theme was “A Journey Through Italy Through Sports.”

My goal was to help participants discover Italy from a fresh perspective by exploring three closely connected themes: sports, culture, and travel.

From preparation to seminar day

While preparing for the seminar, I wanted to find engaging ways to explore the relationship between Italian sports and culture.

We focused on the role sports play in everyday Italian life, Italian expressions connected with sports, and the emotions and passions that sports can reveal about Italian society.

Think, for example, of friends enthusiastically discussing football or following the Giro d’Italia, Italy's famous cycling race. These activities are about much more than watching a sporting event. They are also connected with everyday conversations, local identity, and the richness of Italian culture.

As I began promoting the seminar, registrations gradually came in. Eventually, 14 participants from five countries — Japan, South Korea, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain — signed up!

Knowing that so many people were interested in my very first seminar was a wonderful source of encouragement.

Discovering Italy together across five countries

During the seminar, we explored how sports connect with the Italian language and everyday life.

One of the things that made the experience especially meaningful to me was seeing people from different countries and cultural backgrounds come together around a shared interest in Italy.

Learning a language is about much more than memorizing vocabulary and grammar.

It is also about discovering how people think, what they value, and how they express their feelings.

Sports can be a particularly enjoyable way to begin exploring these cultural connections, differences, and similarities.

Unfortunately, around lunchtime on the day of the seminar, heavy rain hit the Salerno area and caused connection problems. As a result, we had to interrupt the seminar several times.

I sincerely apologize to everyone for the inconvenience.

Despite these unexpected difficulties, the participants remained kind and supportive, and I am truly grateful to everyone who joined me.

Whatever the weather, let's keep moving towards the finish line!

Looking back on the seminar, I am reminded of the cyclists in the Giro d’Italia.

During a cycling race, riders must keep moving towards the finish line not only on sunny days, but also through rain and challenging weather conditions.

I believe learning a language can be a little like that, too.

There will be days when the right words don't come easily. Grammar may seem difficult, or life may get so busy that finding time to study becomes a challenge.

Even so, every small step forward brings a new discovery.

What matters is not simply striving for perfection, but continuing to learn.

Our seminar also encountered an unexpected storm, but we kept going together until the end. For me, it was an unforgettable experience.

After the seminar — and looking ahead

After the seminar, I issued a 10% discount coupon for all my lessons as a thank-you to the participants. The coupon is valid for one month from its date of issue.

I would be delighted if you continued your journey with me, whether you would like to explore one of the seminar topics in greater depth or improve your Italian language skills.

And if you have any questions about what we discussed, please feel free to send me a message!

If there is a particular topic you would like to explore, let me know. I can prepare a tailor-made lesson or even a series of lessons designed around your interests.

Most importantly, this first seminar is not an ending — it is a new beginning!

I hope to organize many more seminars covering a wide range of topics, including Italian language, culture, traditions, travel, and sports.

I look forward to sharing many more discoveries with you in the future.

A heartfelt thank-you to the Cafetalk community

Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in the seminar, everyone who took the time to read the announcements, and everyone in the Cafetalk community who supports my activities.

Your interest and encouragement have given me the confidence to try something new.

And I would especially like to say a few words to everyone who is interested in Italy and studying Italian.

Italy is a country with a long history and a rich cultural heritage, encompassing art, literature, music, food, and the distinctive traditions of its many regions.

Discovering this culture is a journey that takes time. But every new word you learn, every expression you understand, and every insight you gain into the way Italians think and live can open up a new world.

Please keep going on your journey of learning Italian and discovering Italian culture, at your own pace and without rushing.

Even when things feel difficult, your efforts will bring rewards.

And I would be delighted if I could help you along the way.

Let's continue learning, discovering, and sharing our passion for Italy together!

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

I look forward to seeing you in my lessons and at the next seminar!

Giovanni
