Learning Japanese with the Taikobashi

Sasya

This bridge is also called the "Sorihashi." "Soru" means "to curve in a round shape." Look at the photo and check the shape of the bridge for yourself. (This is a photo I took myself.)

The bridge is very steep, so walk slowly when you climb it, and be careful when you go down. "Noboru" (to climb) and "oriru" (to go down) are verbs you use every day. Let's also learn "hashi o wataru" (to cross a bridge) together.

Whenever I visit a shrine to pray, I somehow feel energized. Crossing the red bridge and looking at the quiet water, my heart feels calm.

(I introduced "nanka" in a previous column. Check it out!)

Studying Japanese is fun when you start by talking about your own town. Please tell us about a famous bridge in your country, in Japanese!
