Ciao! Welcome back to "Parole e Caffè". I'm Marina, an Italian teacher with 15 years of experience. Today, we're learning a little expression that I use every single day.
No pressure. No complicated grammar. Just a little Italian magic to make you smile.
Let's begin.
The expression of the day is: PIANO PIANO
In Italian, piano means "slowly". But when you say it twice — piano piano — it becomes something softer. It means "little by little" or "step by step".
It's a feeling that lives with me. I say it when I feel overwhelmed. I say it when I try to do too much. I say it when I forget to breathe.
And I say it to my students, too. Because learning a language is not a race. It's a gentle walk, and everyone has their own pace.
"Piano piano, impari l'italiano." (Little by little, you learn Italian.)
A little Italian for you:
Piano piano, si va lontano. (Little by little, you go far.)
This is one of my favourite expressions. It is simple, but it carries so much peace.
The "Caffè" connection:
I think learning a language is like drinking a coffee. You don't drink it all at once. You sip it, slowly. And the small moments — the little steps — are the ones that make the journey beautiful.
So please, don't rush. Piano piano. We are all walking together.
See you next Tuesday:
Another word, another coffee. Until then, enjoy your coffee!
A presto,
Marina - Caffè con Marina
