When foreigners come to Japan, many want to see a ばしょ (sumo tournament) ~ so if you take them, here are some terms you should be familiar with.
取り組み = Bout
example: The average sumo bout last a little more than six seconds.
番付 = Wrestler Ranking Sheet
example: A new wrestler ranking sheet comes out six times a year.
相撲部屋 = Sumo Stable
example: There are many sumo stables in the Asakusa neighborhood in Tokyo.
おやかた = Stable Master
example: Many retired wrestlers become a stable master.
四股名 = Fighting Name
example: The first professional sumo wrestler from Egypt has the really cool fighting name of "Great Sandstorm" ( 大砂嵐 ).
