"Keep the ball rolling" and "keep your eye on the ball" - sports words of the day

Learn all sports idioms for a chance to earn coupons. The  sports column quiz will be in Early February. The first commenter to get them all right will earn two 40% coupons. The second earns two 30% coupons. The third earns two 20% coupons. The fourth earns a 30% coupon, the fifth earns a 20% coupon and the sixth earns a 10% coupon.

In the event that there aren't six comments with the answers all right, coupons will be given based on who got the most correct answers of everyone who answered within the time limit.

Keep the ball rolling

Or, keep the ball running. It means continuing a task or a goal.

  • You can keep the ball rolling on finding a job by continuing to follow up on leads.
  • If you clean a room everyday, you're keeping the ball rolling when it comes to keeping the house clean.
  • He kept the ball rolling on his story idea by continuing to remind people about it.

Keep your eye on the ball

Almost the same meaning as "keep your eyes on the prize"

"Keep you eye on the ball" means to focus on the task at hand, whereas "keep your eyes on the prize" means to focus on the end goal.

  • If you're paying attention in class, you're keeping your eye on the ball.
  • If you're paying attention because you want to well in class, you're also keeping your eyes on the prize.
  • If you are doing something difficult because it has a reward, you're keeping your eyes on the prize.
  • If you are focusing on the difficult thing, you're keeping your eye on the ball.
