IDIOM: Pig Out

2017年1月30日 | 2 コメント

To Pig Out is an English idiom meaning to eat more than you should have, stuff/gorge yourself, over-eat, etc..

Where did this idiom come from??

While pigs have always been known for gluttony, this phrase wasn't used until the early 1970s. There is a lot of debate on what year exactly as no one is really sure who used this idiom first or when..or where. It seems like it just appeared out of nowhere and we still use it frequently today.

How to use this idiom in daily conversation??

1. It is very typical for Americans to pig out on Thanksgiving.

2. If you keep pigging out on those sweets, you'll get fat!!

3. I have a bad habit of pigging out on chocolate.

4. Babies need to pig out sometimes to help them grow.

5. My brothers would all pig out a lot right before a growth spurt.
