Neutering = The removal of an animal's reproductive organ, either all of it or a considerably large part. "Neutering" is often used incorrectly to refer only to male animals, but the term actually applies to both sexes. The male-specific term is castration. 

Spaying = the removal of the ovaries and uterus from female animals.

Here are 5 reasons to consider spaying / neutering your furry friend.

1. When you spay your female pet, she will live a longer and healthier life. Spaying helps prevent uterine infections and breast tumors (which can be cancerous). You will also be preventing any unplanned pregnancies.

2. Similar benefits come from neutering your male pet. Neutering can help prevent testicular cancer and other prostate problems. You will also be preventing your pet from impregnating another animal.

3. There are countless strays, so when you prevent your pet from having babies, you help make more room in shelters to help strays. There is a large overpopulation of cats, dogs, and other pets worldwide, so you will be helping lower the population count.

4. It will lower your stress and the stress of your pet. Animals can become stressed when they aren't fixed and feel their biological needs to reproduce...but can't because you are, understandably, preventing it. When you spay/neuter your pet, they don't have these stressful cravings. 

5. Your pet will be fine afterward!! They will be calmer and better behaved after surgery — reducing the need to breed can eliminate the desire to run off and find a mate. More importantly, your dog or cat will be healthier, happier, and a more loyal family member.
