Visiting Bratislava, Slovakia

2017年4月6日

My boyfriend and I visited Bratislava for our March weekend trip (we go on a trip to somewhere new, for a weekend, every month); arriving around lunch time on the 25th (Saturday) and leaving the same time on The 27th (Monday).

Was it enough time to explore??

Yes. Yes, it was. Or at least, it was for us.

It's a beautiful place, but the size resembles more of a large town than a capital city.

Walking around in the main area felt almost like a maze.. every street led to the same square. We'd find a new street off the square, "let's go down there and see where it goes!!", only to end up back at the same square, "What?!?! How?!?!"

There were lots of great stores, restaurants, and cafes down every street we went down, with beautiful architecture and statues around every turn, so there wasn't a dull moment. That is until you found the same turn with the same interesting statue more than twice.

Once we strayed away from the touristic center, we saw Hrad Castle (beautiful castle and grounds) and the long, wide river. You can capture some really great shots from both areas, and it's a decent hike.

Of course, we found the cat cafe, MačKafê. Lots of space and play things for the many cats residing here. Most were sleeping when we arrived in the early evening, but we had one curious girl try to steals sip of our milkshakes.

The food, well I'm actually a very picky eater (I'm working on it, and have gotten better since traveling), but still found things I liked. Chinese food, sushi, fries, breakfast cafes and kebabs are plentiful here.

As for traditional Slovakian food, these restaurants are advertised everywhere, but we only tried one place. I struggled to eat their sheep cheese dumplings and sausage meal, but that's just because I'm not the biggest fan of dumplings. It is a really interesting restaurant/bar and highly recommended.

My favorite places to eat were Moods Cafe and ASEAN Fast food. (OMG SO GOOD!!)

Mood Cafe was also one of my favorite cafes. Amazing cucumber mint lemonade!! My other favorite cafe was Gorila Urban Space. A super cool and unique cafe with great books, coffee, tea, and more. You won't regret going to either of these places!!

We stayed in Hostel Blues and, even though we didn't get much sleep due to noisy bunk mates, it was a nice hostel. Clean, friendly and helpful staff, and stylish design. You can't expect much sleep in hostels though, especially on weekends.

It was a great weekend trip, and another country marked off my list.

I might not go back, but I still highly recommend everyone visit if you haven't already.

Have a great day!!
