Modal Auxiliary 'Would'

May 24, 2017

Hello Everyone!

Would you like to learn how to use ‘would’?

This is a very important little word and anyone who has taken my Quickfire Questions lesson has heard me use it many times, since I try to practice it a lot.

But there are many uses for would and native speakers use this little word a lot.

Here is a very nicely laid out article explaining what a modal auxiliary is, how ‘would’ functions and some examples.

http://learningenglish.voanews.com/a/everyday-grammar-learn-about-modal-auxiliaries/3854950.html

So, now that you have read the article, can you classify the following two sentences? Which type of ‘would’ are they?

1. I wouldn’t like to go to an amusement park.

2. If you could be a professional sports player, what sport would you like to play?

If you want to practice more modal auxiliary patterns with ‘would’, please feel free to book one of my lessons. (Quickfire Questions for conversation practice. Make Your Own Lesson for questions about ‘would’ and some practice making sentences of your own.)

Have a great day!
