Yoga Styles explained! - Part 1

2017年9月17日

Good morning my fellow yogi's and yoga curious friends!

As promised, here is the start of my 3 part column on various styles of yoga. Please check out my previous yoga columns on basic terminology if you get the chance!

https://cafetalk.com/column/read/?id=69878&lang=en

1. Hatha Yoga - Hatha technically implies any form of 'physical' yoga practice as opposed to the other 6 forms of non-physical yoga such as 'karma yoga', 'bhakiti yoga' and others. In the modern day world (and most importantly, for the context of this column) Hatha yoga will generally refer to any type of classic yoga practice involving basic poses, breathing techniques, and meditation.

2. Prenatal Yoga - As the name suggests, prenatal yoga is a style in which postures are carefully chosen and tailored to be suitable for expectant mothers through all stages of child birth. Keeping your muscles strong and supple throughout the childbirth will mean quicker recovery afterwards! Always be sure that you only see a qualified and suitable prenatal yoga instructor. If in doubt - ask to see their qualifications!

3. 'Bikram' or 'Hot' Yoga - This is a style of yoga created by the infamous 'Bikram Choudhury'. Proper Bikram yoga will involve the same set of  26 poses every lesson, along with a script which is repeated word by word (!). It is most well known for the room being heated to a sweltering 105 degree farenheit, and 40% humidity!!!

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Please stay tuned as there is plenty more to come.
