Three commonly used British Idioms involving delicious foods! - Part 3

2017年9月22日

Good day everyone!

This is the third part in my series on British idioms involving foods. When I set out to write these columns I realised that there are so many idoms containing foods that this could contain multiple parts. I have decided to leave it at three, so this will be the final part!

I hope you are enjoying them so far!

1. 'Sell like hot cakes' - This means that something is selling extremely well and is very popular!

Example:

"The new Sherlock Holmes books are selling like hot cakes Chris!"

2. 'Spice things up' - This means to attempt to make something more interesting.

Example:

"I wanted to spice things up in my marriage so I decided to take my Wife away on a surprise holiday"

3. 'The proof is in the pudding' - This means that something has to be experienced in order to see how good it actually is.

Example:

"Barry claims that he has been training very hard for his race on Saturday"

"Well we will find out soon enough, the proof is in the pudding"

Thank you for reading these columns! Although I said above that I will keep this as only three part series, I may end up adding to it as there are just so many of these phrases and they can be very fun to learn. Not to mention, great at getting your appetite up!

Take care everyone and have a lovely evening.
