Yoga Styles Explained - Part 3!

Welcome to the third and final part of my series 'Yoga Styles Explained'. I hope you have been enjoying them so far, and most of all, I hope they have either inspired you to continue your yoga practice, or perhaps to start practicing yoga if this was something you were not currently doing!

1. 'Iyengar Yoga' (pronounced EYE-ENN-GERR) - This is an extremely 'precise' form of yoga, in which alignment and detail are of the highest importance! This style is well known for it's use of many 'props', such as yoga block, straps and boards.

2. 'Kundalini Yoga' (KOON-DA-LEEN-EE) - This particular style is influenced by certain schools of Hinduism, and places it's main emphasis on 'awakening' the 'Kundalini' energy which we hold deep in our spine. It usually involves not only poses and breathing exercises, but also chanting in order to increase our awareness and stimulate our true nature.

3. Modern Styles of Yoga - This short section will cover three modern types of Yoga which have are popular in today's day and age.

- SUP Yoga - This is Yoga - but performed on a 'Stand Up Paddleboard' on the water! This is great for building your core strength, due to the instability from the water below you.

- Acro Yoga - This style is based around performing exercises with a partner. It involves many acrobatic style balancing poses, as well as deep stretching and flowing exercises using your partner as an aid. 

- Cat / Dog Yoga - Cat and dog yoga classes have recently sprung up in Western cities, and generally involve performing Yoga in a room in which rescue cats or dogs can freely walk around whilst you practice! This is not only a great way to meet animals which have no home and potentially adopt them, but also it is great at forcing you to 'stay in the moment!'.
