Using personal electronic devices (e.g. mobile phone, ipad, laptop, pc, etc)
Description
Scenario A:
Student uses the same device on which he wants to use as his independent English learning tool to have this lesson (student would be required to share his screen and would thus be guided on the shared screen).
Scenario B:
Student has 2 devices, one for this lesson and the other is his independent English learning tool.
Lesson plan
Presentation
Student shares screen electronically (scenario A) or manually (scenario B). He is asked to launch his preferred browser or I would recommend one and a search engine. I would give him some good search engine keywords (related to the students Language learning goals) e.g. English words related to travel, hobbies, how to start a friendly conversation in English. The student is asked to select one of the search results and click/tap on it. Browsing through the associated web page, I would encourage the student to explore the contents and determine if this meets his needs. Otherwise we would return to the search engine and pick the next best search result. I would also show the student how to use online dictionaries to improve his vocabulary. (10 mins)
Practise
The student is encouraged to close the browser and go through the process independently. (10 mins)
c
I would conclude the lesson by helping the student also see the advantage of maintaining the additional support from a personal tutor on cafe talk as that would improve their conversational skills and boost their confidence.(5 mins)
