Have you always wanted to learn chess but didn't know where to start?
This lesson is for complete beginners. You don't need any chess experience before we begin!
I know learning chess can feel confusing at first. I started learning not long ago myself, so I understand which parts can be difficult for beginners. My goal is to explain everything in a simple, patient, and easy-to-follow way.
In this 30-minute lesson, we'll learn:
- How each piece moves and captures
- The goal of the game: check and checkmate
- Special moves like castling
- The value of each piece
- Simple practice together, if time allows
By the end of the lesson, you'll know the rules of chess and be ready to start playing your own games.

You don't need a chessboard. We'll use a free online board that we can both see during the lesson!
This is the first lesson in my beginner chess series. In future lessons, we'll learn opening principles, beginner tactics, and how to avoid common mistakes.
I conduct these lessons over Zoom, and will use Chess.com and prepared material to teach the basic fundamentals of chess. I look forward to teaching you!
